The first Space Awareness Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) "Teaching with Space and Astronomy in your Classroom", in a series of four online courses produced by the project, has now officially ended.
Participants from all over Europe and beyond, had the chance to learn about how to use space and astronomy as a context to teach any subject. More specifically, participants learned why it is important and inspiring to use space and astronomy as a vehicle for their lessons, how to use Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE), saw what ICT tools to use for collaboration and explored the great potential of Citizen Science in education, learned strategies for diversity inclusiveness and gender balance and finally, explored the multitude of space careers and space career activities they can do with their students as well as paths to reach them.
The MOOC also featured a series of three brilliant live webinars with experts in their field, on the topics of citizen science in education, teaching activities for space careers, and paths to space careers. The recordings of these sessions are available on the Career Hub of the project for anyone who is interested in learning more!
The good news is that even though the course has ended, all materials can still be accessed but it is important to note that certification is not available anymore.
The next Space Awareness MOOC “Navigation through the Ages” will start in the end of February 2017. Before taking the upcoming MOOCs, we strongly encourage you to take the first online course in the series, as it will provide you with basic knowledge and tools of introducing space and astronomy topics to students.
