EU Space Awareness will participate on the EU Open Day 2017 activities in Brussels, Belgium, which will take place on Saturday 6 May. The European Commission invited the project to participate in its activities for the EU Open Day 2017 and we will be present at the 'EU Science all around the clock!' stand performing several workshops around space and astronomy at the European Commission headquarters at the Berlaymont building. The stand will only accommodate a few projects out of the many EU-funded projects, so it is an honour for EU Space Awareness to be chosen to participate.
To celebrate Europe Day on May 9th, the EU institutions open their doors to the public around the month of May. This is an annual event, with institutions across the continent holding special events. In Brussels, activities will take place on Saturday 6 May. In previous years, the Festival has attracted tens of thousands of people from across Europe.
Through a playful and interactive walk by 30 stands, this 25th edition of the EU Open Day in the Berlaymont building will present the main policies of the EU, highlighting the 60th anniversary of the Rome Treaties, the 5 scenario's on the future of Europe, the European Solidarity Corps and the 30th anniversary of the Erasmus+ Programme.
The project will participate on the 'EU Science all around the clock!' stand that will showcase 9 EU-funded projects that will use exciting hands-on experiments to show visitors the magic of science!
The Space Awareness workshop will consist on hands-on activities about space and astronomy where children and their families will explore the stars and constellations by learning the stories behind them and creating their own. Using the educational resource Earth Ball, children and their families will also learn about the planet we call home.
The event will be open to the public on Saturday 6 May 2017 from 10.00 to 18.00. It will take place at the Berlaymont Building located at rue de la Loi, 200 1040 – Brussels. The entrance of the building is located on the side of the rue de la Loi near the Boulevard de Charlemagne.
