Meet Dr Jorge Vago

Mini-profile:

Jorge Vago is the 2020 Exomars mission Project Scientist working at European Space Agency's technical centre (ESTEC) in the Netherlands.

Jorge was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  He obtained a Bachelor Degrees in Engineering and Electrical Engineering at the Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires (ITBA). In 1986 he enrolled in Cornell University (Ithaca, NY, USA), where he completed a Masters of Engineering in Applied Physics and a PhD in Space Plasmas and Planetary Physics.

He joined the European Space Agency (ESA) in 1992. Initially, Jorge worked on the Cluster mission. This was followed by a number of years of project management, mainly involving the development of physics experiment laboratories for Russian capsules and the International Space Station.

Currently Jorge is ESA’s ExoMars Project Scientist. He is the interface for the investigator communities interested in the ExoMars Programme, as well as for other ESA activities embedded in the international Mars exploration context, such as the Mars Sample Return mission.

Besides work, Jorge also enjoys travelling with his family, painting, reading, and swimming.
